One of the great innovators of the electric guitar, George "Buddy" Guy was born in Lettsworth, Louisiana, in 1936. He moved to Chicago in 1957 and became a session guitarist for Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, and Little Walter at Chess Records. His first single was released in 1958, while his debut album, "Let My Blues In San Francisco", his only release on Chess Records, came out in 1967. Later, with Vanguard Records, his second album "This Is Buddy Guy!" was released in 1968. Recorded live, this album marked the first major milestone of his career. This iconic album has been remastered and reissued by Craft Records in 2025, an opportunity to rediscover Buddy Guy at the wildest point in his journey. Chess Records was Buddy Guy's label from 1960 to 1968, but they were reluctant to release much of his music, considering it too "noisy." His 1967 album was issued at the very end of their partnership. Buddy Guy has won eight Grammy Awards and, between 1981 and 2019, received 38 Blues Music Awards, making him the most awarded bluesman in history.
