Ma Polaine's Great Decline

Ma Polaine's Great Decline

A difficult environment to describe. The songs of this band remain indefinable throughout their journey. Beth Packer and Clinton Hough combine the magic of hinted beauty with a reality of surprising emotions. This album is the proof presented to the audience of more than a decade's worth of imagining songs and making them real, with minimal backing of guitar, bass, and a shy drumbeat. The voice rises above it all, grand, emotional, and passionate. This duo from Somerset (UK) began composing together when, in 2010, Clinton joined Beth's soul band, Beth and the Black Cat Bones, and the chemistry between them inevitably led to the formation of Ma Polaine's Great Decline. Their musical temperament translates into songs that seem fragile but lead to a climactic performance that exceeds any expectation. It's unexpected jazz, introspective folk, and declined blues music, all within a context of inspiration and enthusiasm that the band assumes enigmatically with devotion. Beth Packer's voice presides over the entire ceremony, it blooms shyly and unfolds with unusual precision in every note the guitar draws around its presence. The music of Ma Polaine's Great Decline constantly invites reflection, simplifying its progression to achieve the precise measure, and demands attention in stimulating doses. A walk through their musical work opens doors to the imagination, offers peaceful pauses, and serves as an effective therapy for overcoming an excess of ambiguity. This "Live" album should serve as a way to go back to any of their previous albums, to enjoy the essence of these introverted and captivating musicians.
